Light of the World, a City on A Hill

…thinking out loud about living missionally in the city of Sydney so that the city will come to know Jesus…

The harvest is plentiful…

I listened to a message this morning introducing a series on 1 Corinthians. The planting of the Corinthian church by Paul in Acts 18 was the focus of the message and verses 9 and 10 were very encouraging:

9 And the Lord said to Paul one night in a vision, “Do not be afraid, but go on speaking and do not be silent, 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many in this city who are my people.” Acts 18:9-10.

After being in Corinth for some time, Paul comes under opposition and persecution from the city’s religious people, the Jews (gotta love those religious people). Jesus then comes in a dream to give Paul encouragement to persevere in his mission.

I wish sometimes Jesus would audibly encourage me in doing his work. In the absence of this, however, I will take encouragement from the above verse that in my own mission field Jesus has many who are His and will be drawn to himself though the imperfect work of His church.

On mission,
Jeff
